Crofton Beam Engines

Crofton Beam Engines

The Grade 1 listed Crofton Pumping Station houses two historic beam engines, one of which installed in 1812 is the oldest working beam engine in the world. They are still able to do their original job pumping water to the summit of the Kennet and Avon canal.

Jon Willis has been a volunteer at Crofton for 20 years and past chairman of the organisation. His talk will cover the history of the engines and the 21st century system monitoring their performance.

Join Jon in the Holden Room at the Acton Depot on Thursday 24th October at 14:00.
