Recreating Route 350

Saturday 1st March 2025

Mike Kay invites Friends on another Country Bus Route tour organised by ATTC

Through the good offices of Roger Wright and Wesley Tierney of the London Bus Company, we are operating one more Northern LT Country Area route tour, before moving our attention south of the River.

The date for your diary is: Saturday 1st March 2025.

We will travel over former routes 350/350A from New Barnet station to Bishops Stortford, via Hertford and Potters Bar. The nickname of the route was the ‘In and Out’, as it traversed both the Country and Central areas and the borders of the former Middlesex and Hertfordshire. In London Country times, a bus ran through to New Barnet only every two hours; the others turned short at Potters Bar. It is said that the drivers liked the Potters Bar “shorts” as there was an excellent staff canteen in the garage.

Our route will take us from Barnet, past Potters Bar garage, to cross the old Hatfield to Hertford railway line at Cole Green. From Ware, the route follows another closed line: the St Margaret’s to Buntingford branch which closed in 1964.

We will return to New Barnet via the 350A, which diverted from the main route at Widford to serve Hunsdon and St Margaret’s, before re-joining the 350 at Ware.

Meet at the Bus Stand, New Barnet station at 11.00. (Return 17.30)

We will travel in an AEC RF bus
