Delaine Buses
Please Note Change of Date
Now Saturday 31st May
Mike Kay invites Friends on a short set of new tours, organized by the Association of Travel Trade Clubs (ATTC).
Participants will visit a transport undertaking and take an in-depth look at their operation and history, sampling their product at first hand. These tours will not just be London-based, but will extend into the provinces.
What better start for ATTC's maiden tour than Delaine Buses of Bourne, Lincolnshire? This company started a horse bus service to get local people to the markets in 1890, under the founder William Smith, a local haulage contractor. Severn generations later, and under the control of the Delaine family, the company finds itself in a position of great strength, with a positive future ahead of it.
The company operates a fleet of 33 modern buses and coaches. It is under the control of Managing Director Mark Delaine and his father, the Company Chairman and Ian Delaine. Local bus services are operated in the Peterborough, Spalding and Stamford catchment area.
Tour details:
Participants make their own way to Peterborough station, for a bus departure at 11.00.
The tour will include a chance to ride on some of the Delaine routes. Lunch will be provided, followed by a question-and-answer session with the management team; this will cover the company history and outline the future plans and aspirations of the company. Please state any food allergies or dietary requirements you may have when booking. ATTC will try to accommodate those, in conjunction with the company hosts and catering suppliers, and will explain if any particular requirements cannot be met.
A visit to the company’s museum at Spalding Road will follow, with a chance to ride on some of the heritage vehicles.
What is included:
The tour should return to Peterborough station at around 1700.
ATTC would like to thank Steven Longmuir, one of the senior drivers of Delaine, for his help in planning this tour.
